Good question! I generally love the visuals and music of '80s anime, but when it comes to storylines and character development I often find them a bit lacking. Kimagure Orange Road is an anime I watched in my childhood/early teens and I think it still has some value, even if parts of it are grating and repetitive. And of course NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind is one of my favorite Miyazaki movies. Sherlock Hound is another one I really like, being a well-made and rounded series, and I guess the furry motif in the character designs doesn't hurt. =)
Tom Sawyer is part of the World Masterpiece Theater, isn't it? I've heart a lot of good about that series, but the only one I have watched is The Adventures of Peter Pan, which was fine as far as I remember.

I like how the English version cut out the vocals so it's like a karaoke version if your as familiar with japanese as I am. The Peter Pan one was kinda stupid to me though.

Hello! I clearly remember the series "Onegai! Samia-don" from 1985. It was about a dwarf-something-creature living in the sand of a daylight mine in the UK. This creature is a good friend of three children who ask him for strange wishes that it makes come true using its magic powers. One wish for a whole day until the sunset! It comes to strange and funny situations, very enjoyable. I've just read in Wikipedia this anime is based on the 1902 novel "Five Children and It" by English author Edith Nesbit. The opening theme was very catchy. If you don't know about it, I recommend you all to take a look on it! Sherlock Hound was also one I liked!

I liked "Princess Sarah" and "Pollyanna, Girl of Love" and "Little Women", they are all of the classic anime series "World Masterpiece Theater".
Other 80s non-WMT animes what i liked are "Wakakusa no Yon Shimai" ("Little Women" version of Toei. Is quite different from the Nippon Animation WMT version) "Anime Sanjushi" ("The Three Musketeers"), "Sherlock Hound" and "Oz no Mahou Tsukai" ("Wizard of Oz").
I very like the "Meisaku" animes ^^

Same. Isn't that called "Wanwan Sanjushi" not "Anime Sanjushi" though? " Wanwan Sanjuushi" and " Anime Sanjuushi" was originated by same book "The Three Musketeers". The first anime is shorter (only has 26 episodes) and the protagonists are animals. The second has 52 episodes and the protagonists are human.
